Bill Austin Brangus was established

after several decades in the ranching business. We spent thirty years raising commercial cattle, sheep, and Angora goats in the Texas Hill Country.

We had tremendous success breeding and selling finewool and crossbred show lambs to FFA and 4H students across Texas. We had lambs win and were champions at every major show in Texas. We always had good commercial cattle but never concentrated on raising breeding stock. We decided in 2010 to go all in and raise registered cattle. We had raised Hereford, Angus, and many crosses in our cowherd. After that experience, we realized that the cattle we enjoyed the most and the cattle that were the best producers were Brangus.

OUR PROGRAM

We run approximately 125 registered Brangus cows in Menard and Concho counties of Texas. We have bulls and females that can help any program regardless whether you are a commercial or purebred breeder. We welcome your inquires about the cattle. If you make that decision, we promise you will not regret it. You will only wish you had done it sooner.

We attempt to Artificially Inseminate (AI) every cow or use a portion of our registered herd as recipients to put embryos in, from our donor females. We use our own bull’s semen as well as semen from what we consider to be the best Brangus sires available in the breed.  All of our cattle have DNA taken to verify parentage and to give us the Genomic Enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs). This provides more detailed information about how the cattle can be expected to produce and to perform. We also have our cattle scanned (via Ultrasound) so that we know the real measurements for ribeye area (REA), intramuscular fat (IMF), as well as back fat and rump fat. For every calf, we record a weight at birth, weaning, and yearling. There is no doubt that we know a great deal more about our cattle then we do about our own family. We are a data driven industry but at the same time we visually evaluate each animal to make sure they are sound. All of this is done to improve the cattle that we retain. This information is also a valuable tool for buyers to aid them in their selection. Ranching has become a very sophisticated business in many respects but there is still the day to day business of taking care of the ranch and cattle. Come visit and see the results.
